Look, Touch, Immerse, You can’t buy that on-line!

They come in to our store, pump us for information,  Beanie's Social Marketing Strategiesthen go and purchase on-line to save a few dollars! Beanie how are we suppose to compete with that?

My answer is simple, give them something that you can’t buy on-line.

Atmosphere or an Experience!

Then I am usually told that is a great idea BUT….

It won’t work for our business!

The business owner I am talking with then goes on to justify to themselves why it won’t work with every miserable excuse under the sun!

The big problem for these business owners  isn’t the fact that people are shopping online. The big problem is they are focusing on the problem not the solution!

Let me explain why this is so vital.

Recently I was watching the movie Patch Adams.

Early on in the movie when Patch was in a mental health hospital, one of the other patient grabbed his hand and held four fingers up in front of him.

How many fingers can you see the patient asked Patch? Patch’s response was four.

WRONG answer the patient shouted! And the reason you are getting the wrong answer is because you are focusing on the problem (the four fingers) and not the solution. Focus on a point past your fingers, and now tell me how many fingers you can see. When Patch did this he could see eight fingers. All because he changed what he was focusing on.

Enough talk let’s see if this really works in the real world, in a real business!

Let me set the scene….

It’s Sunday morning, I am walking up Summer Street in Orange with my daughter who is celebrating her 13th birthday. We are looking for the bookshop we frequent, and nearly walk straight past it because it has now changed to the Hard Back Cafe.

We walk inside and I think to myself…..  This is exactly what I have been talking about! See that picture up to the right? That is one of the many just like it in the store that encourage you to sit have a coffee and read any of the books on sale, without any obligation to buy them!

Look, Touch, Immerse the signs say

What a refreshing change from the usual… “You touch you buy signs”

It never fails to amaze me that business owners think that by putting those signs up that customers are going to feel comfortable in their shop and actually want to support their business!

But will this really work for them? I mean will Beanie go back for another coffee, and purchase another book? You can bloody well put the house on it! After experiencing this bookshop, all of the other bookshop’s in town just seem so beige now!

Watch for an upcoming video that I make in this amazing business, that will give you an even better insight into the very powerful Social Marketing Strategies they are leveraging ! In the mean time the video below gives me another option to take advantage of people shopping on-line……

Stop whining about it, and start selling to them!

Action is critical. Everyone talks about wanting to attract more of something into their life. We guess which word is front and centre in attraction !Oh Yeh

Great post Adam. I love how you say that we so often focus on the problem and not the solution. If more people focused on the solutions in all areas of their lives their health, relationships, finances and businesses would all be better 🙂

Hi Beanie, I agree… I think atmosphere and personality are everything. Whether on line or not, the business has it’s own temperament and either it’s either happy, likable and attractive or it’s not. This is why knowing what your target audience wants and who they are us essential… What is attractive to the people I want to attract and how can I best give it to them. There are no problems, only solutions!!!!
