Can you really afford not to fix your website?

by Adam Bean on March 31, 2012

Many business owners I speak to try telling me this story…

I would like to have my website up dated, but I don’t know if I can afford to spend the money on it.

Now this is a very short sighted way of looking at things, it is like saying..

I would love to be able to drive my car to work, to make some more money, but I can’t afford the petrol!

Your website if it is set up correctly, should be generating new leads and sales every week.

So let’s do a quick calculation to see if you can afford to fix it up.

I do a Silent Salesman website package for under $1500.00

Lets work on some really conservative figures, say I fix your website up, and it generates you two new sales per month. Now let’s say for arguments sake that the average spend of your customer is $250 (again very conservative) and that doesn’t take into consideration the life time value of a customer! Because I am going to show you how to keep them coming back to buy from you.

So $1500 divided by $250 = 6 customers! In three months your website has paid for itself, and continues to keep bringing in new customer’s. As well as keep them your other customer’s coming back. Pretty good deal don’t you think?

Al right now we have established that you simple can’t afford not to fix your website, this is what I want you to do for the next week.

Put some sort of an offer up on your website that requires people to come in to your store and give you a code to get a discount, give away, whatever. That part is irrelevant, it’s just to prove how effective the message on your website is. Now I want you to go look at your webpages analytics.

Let’s say for argument’s sake you are getting 20 – 30 visits to your page per day from targeted keyword relevant traffic. If no one is actually taking any action and coming in and buying from you.

Guess What?????

Your website is literally leaking cash and the ineffective message you have on your page is quite literally killing your cash-flow, and crippling your businesses growth!

So what do you do now if  you are generating no sales from your website? Of course you have an answer up your sleeve don’t you Beanie? Yep I sure do.

The first thing you need to do is decide exactly who your website is suppose to be speaking to. You have to find your speciality or your Niche. And the best place to start is with your product that sells the best, with the highest profit margin. No rocket science there.

Let me give you an example..

Let’s say you have a retail surf shop that sells, mens clothes, women’s clothes, surfboards and skate boards. If you try and create a message that covers all of those things on one page, guess what?

People are just going to get confused as to how you can help them, leave your site never to return! And there goes another chunk of cash-flow with them! So how do we address this?

Allright this is what you are going to do. You decide that women’s clothing is going to be your best selling item, with the best profit margin! I know who would have guessed that would be the case! Lol

Now that is a good start but it is still not specific enough. Remember we all sell the exact same thing no matter what business we are in….

Solutions to problems.

What we need do is get inside the head of the person you are selling to, so that you can address their problems, and show them the fantastic solution you have available to them. To nail down even further we are going to make our page about suitable outfits for upcoming events.

Now the number of event’s that come up through the year are countless, Melbourne Cup, St Patrick’s Day, charity events, work functions, etc etc. By choosing this specific market, we now know a lot more about or prospect and the problems they may have finding a suitable outfit for their upcoming function.

We can also package add value and crank our cash-flow up another notch if we get this right. What if we went to the local hairdresser, nail technician, facial/massage salon and worked with them to create a Package deal where they could pay once and get everthing they need for their event? What we have done now is saved them a lot of time and headache, which in turn increases the value of our product!

By now you should be salivating with Small Business Marketing Ideas that you could implement on your website.  And this is only the beginning of what you can do.

So if you are sick of  your website literally leaking cash, then just enter your name, email address and best contact phone number in the form below. And I will give you a call to discuss how I can best help you fix your broken website.

Cheers Beanie The “Social” Tradie
