7 Small Business Marketing Ideas, that will bury your local competition

by Adam Bean on June 20, 2012

I have a website, what do you meanBeanies Small Business Marketing Ideas I need to do some on-line marketing Beanie? Believe it or not I have actually had small business owners tell me this.

There are a couple of problems with this way of thinking.

  1. A website does not automatically equal on-line marketing. In fact the majority of  small business’s websites that I see have very little if any marketing happening on them.
  2. If your website isn’t updated regularly, the odds of it staying at the top of the search results (if it does happen to get there at all) are not good.

So what is the answer?  What do we need to do Beanie?

There are literally hundreds of things that you can do, and today what I am going to show you  is 7 key social marketing strategies that if you put into place, will literally bury your local competition. Does that sound like something you want to do? Lol

Of course it is, so let’s get down to business.

I am going to use one of these “I already have a website business owners” and show you how you could bury them in the dark depths of the Google search results if they were your competition.

So they have a website, big deal! As I said earlier, if they don’t update it regularly it ain’t going to stay on the front page of Google for long. Especially once you put these steps in place.

What you need first is set up your own website with a blog. This is really easy to do, and creating the content for it is a cinch when you follow the steps that I give you. There is only one platform to build your website on, and that is WordPress! End of story.

Now we need some content for this blog, and as I said it’s not as hard as you think. Lets see what small business marketing ideas we can employ to create this content, before we go any further.

Lets start with an easy one first, which is…

A Google + Hangout, now if you don’t know what this is go back to my post just here => video is killing the SEO star and learn a little more. This strategy is absolutely killer when it comes to ranking on Google at the moment.

This strategy alone will get you on the front page of Google, with the right tweaks!  All you need is a gmail account, a computer with a webcam, and a quick power-point presentation and you are all set to go. Next…

A pod-cast. Again super simple to do, if you need ideas for how to set it up and what to talk about, check out what Alistair and I do on the Local Social Business Show.

By now if your competition has seen what you are up to, they are literally sweating bullets wondering what your next move will be! Which is…

Now I haven’t even done this for myself in the new format as yet, but I am on to it this week. Set up your Google Places listing which is now tied to Google + and Zagat.

With your Twitter account, follow the top 20 influencers tweeting (relevant info to your market) in your local area. I know what you are going to say.. “I don’t get Twitter”. Use it the way I just told you to, and the power of this strategy will soon become evident to you.

This next one you probable haven’t heard before. It is something that I have been using myself, and I am pretty sure the results are because of the Geo tagging. Get the App SocialCam and record some 2 to 3 minute educational video’s for you products. Be sure to hook it up so that it posts to your YouTube account.

Here is one I prepared earlier…

Last but not least, this is a killer way to brand yourself as an expert and to create the high quality back-links your website needs to keep it at the top of the search results. Write articles and submit them to ezine articles.

Theses are some examples of articles I have written that are backlinked to this site to get your creative ideas flowing.
