<p>I run some training called #TaDaFriday.</p>
<p>The purpose behind it is to give business owners like yourself some quick simple social marketing strategies that you can use immediately to improve your marketing.</p>
<p>Which in turn will generate more leads and sales for your business.</p>
<p>Exactly what you want right?</p>
<p>So this week I am having a little flash back to a 1980&#8242;s song&#8230;.  Video killed the radio star!</p>
<p>With Google + now introducing the live-streaming feature, I get the distinct feeling that history may be repeating itself, and it may not be just the radio star that is in trouble.</p>
<p>Let me explain where I am coming from.</p>
<p>The other day I read a post about dominating<a title="Duct Tape Marketing, Small Business Marketing Blog" href="http://www.ducttapemarketing.com/blog/2012/05/07/one-simple-tactic-that-can-give-you-an-unfair-advantage-in-local-search/" target="_blank"> local search</a> results by using a YouTube video with some relevant keyword targeting. This is interesting I think to myself.</p>
<p>A couple of nights later I am having my weekly chat with <a title="Alistair Bull The Full Noise" href="http://thefullnoise.co.nz/" target="_blank">Alistair Bull from the Full Noise. </a>We get together every week to plan and record our podcast which is also all about <strong>small business marketing ideas</strong> that the local bricks and mortar business owner can take and put to good use straight away.</p>
<p>Now Alistair has been on my back for quite some time now to start using Google +, I keep telling him that there is no point because it is only him and one other bloke on there! Lol. This night he says&#8230;</p>
<p>Have you seen that you can live stream from a Google + hangout now! You can what I said?? Damn him he knows me to well already, he knows that video is my weakness and that this will instantly get me over to Google +. So we try it out and it&#8217;s a great tool. Anway on with recording the show we go.</p>
<p>A couple of days later my brain which has had the Google + live-stream and local search post mixing around in it says&#8230;</p>
<p>Hey Beanie, what if you took the local search technique and crossed it with a Google + hangout live-stream? I mean that has to be a great <span style="text-decoration: underline;">small business marketing idea</span>, particularly from an SEO perspective? Doesn&#8217;t it?</p>
<p>So this is part of that test. It is working like gang busters at the moment, but it&#8217;s not complete! In the next post, I will show you some of my results, and we will find out if&#8230;</p>

<p>Anyone that knows me knows I have very <a href="http://smallbusinessmarketingideas.tv"><img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-2295" title="Beanies Small Business Marketing Ideas" src="http://smallbusinessmarketingideas.tv/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/graduate-hi-286x300.png" alt="Beanies Small Business Marketing Ideas" width="286" height="300" /></a>little regard for the education system or how it is run. Now don&#8217;t get me wrong I want to make this point crystal clear&#8230;</p>
<p>I am PRO EDUCATION!</p>
<p>But the problem with the education system is, it&#8217;s not about education. It&#8217;s just a tool for controlling the masses and all they teach is memorisation.</p>
<p>But that is a another rant for another day.</p>
<p>Back to the point of this post&#8230;</p>
<p>Before I tell you this story, I want you to understand this. I have nothing against this person at all. I tell this story because it demonstrates a very important point, that could save you a lot of cash and heart break in the long run.</p>
<p>At the moment I have a website that I am selling. Anyway Zborjk {I am using that name to protect the innocent} shows some interest in it. I want to sell the website, but I want to work with the person that I sell it to so that they get there money back ASAP.</p>
<p>Zborjk says that they don&#8217;t need my help, and they can do all of their marketing themselves!</p>
<p>Yeah right. This is starting to sound familiar!</p>
<p>So I take a deep breath and say this is not just about physically bringing people into your business. I am going to monetize this website for you via apps, information products, email marketing etc.</p>
<p>Zborjk then informs me of the following&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;I know exactly what you are talking about, as I have a marketing degree&#8221;</p>
<p><span style="color: #ff0000;"><strong>There is the huge problem with a marketing degree IMHO.</strong></span></p>
<p>Marketing Degrees are taught in Universities. They are taught by Professors that are &#8220;suppose to be marketing experts&#8221;</p>
<p>Now I have a real problem with this scenario, let me explain why.</p>
<p>Professor&#8217;s that teach marketing, get their knowledge from other professor&#8217;s that teach marketing.  These guys all work for a wage, and what they teach is in no way results based. Their pay goes in their bank account every week regardless of the results {or lack of} they get.</p>
<p>They do not have to use any of the marketing strategies that they teach to provide any income for themselves. And what is worse is they they don&#8217;t even run a business, they just work for the University.</p>
<p>So my question is&#8230;</p>
<p>How to they become experts at marketing, when their knowledge of marketing is only ever used in a theoretical environment, where no results are ever recorded?</p>
<p>Now you see where I am coming from don&#8217;t you?</p>
<p>A marketing degree from a University I do not have {nor do I want}  I learnt my trade from the teachings of the following guys. Real business owners that actually make their living from using the marketing strategies they teach. Here are just a few of their names..</p>

<li>Ed Dale</li>
<li>Justin Herald</li>
<li>Mal Emery</li>
<li>Frank Kern</li>
<li>Any Jenkins</li>
</ul>
<div>So the question you need to ask yourself is..</div>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<div>Would you rather have someone like me that learnt from all I know from the teachings of some of the smartest marketing minds on the planet marketing your business for you, or would you rather listen to someone with a &#8220;Marketing Degree&#8221; sprout theoretical bullshit!</div>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Geez Beanie when you put it like that it is a bit of a no brainer! Lol</p>
<p>Now I know for a fact that Zborjk didn&#8217;t have a fucking clue what I was talking about when I told him how I could monetize that website. How do I know?  Because Zborjk completely brushed past every strategy I talked about.</p>
<p>This is a little system that I have for figuring out if people know what they are talking about.  And it works on anything to by the way. If someone says to you, &#8220;I know what you mean&#8221;, and they just brush past what you are talking about, then guess what??</p>
<p>They don&#8217;t have a fucking clue about what you just explained to them! Yes that is the technical construction term for it to BTW! Lol</p>
<p>This is the second test, which I also performed.</p>
<p>If they tell you that they know exactly what you are talking about, (and you know how well it works, because you use it yourself ) go and have a look to see if they are implementing what you are teaching them.</p>
<p>Have a guess what I found when I looked at Zborjks website?</p>
<p><strong>Zero of what I was talking about.</strong></p>
<p>In fact it looked exactly like the type of marketing one of those professor&#8217;s that I mentioned earlier in the post, would have taught in 1980. Mmm  I wonder why that might be?</p>
<p>Something to do with the &#8220;Marketing Degree&#8221; I suspect! Lol</p>
<p>I guess it all comes back to this&#8230;</p>
<p>Are you impressed with title&#8217;s like &#8220;A Marketing Degree&#8221; or would you just rather see &#8220;Results&#8221; that are going to put money in your pocket?</p>
<p>I know which one I will take thank you very much!</p>

<p>This post is a direct result of reading a blog post by Paul Barrs of  <em><a title="Paul Barrs Interent Business Training" href="http://www.paulbarrs.com/advanced-article-strategies" target="_blank">PaulBarrs.com</a></em> and this was the comment that sparked this post&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;Note: Make it QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY. Make it <strong>so damn good</strong> that people should have paid for it – and give it away for free.&#8221; Paul Barrs</p>
<p>We used to have a saying when I played football, no matter how good you natural talent is, there will always be someone bigger, fitter, faster and stronger.</p>
<p>Now that doesn&#8217;t mean that you can&#8217;t compete with them, you just need to be smarter about how you do it.</p>
<p>Size and speed were never assets that I had, (but it didn&#8217;t mean that I couldn&#8217;t hold my own &amp; compete) my brain tended to work quite a bit quicker than most of the meat heads I was playing against!</p>
<p>Which brings me to today&#8217;s topic&#8230; Trade Secrets.</p>
<p>If your business is relying on a couple of trade secret&#8217;s to compete in today&#8217;s market place, then guess what? It&#8217;s not a business.</p>
<p>So what are you saying Beanie? I should give my best information away for free? That is exactly what I am saying! No matter how good your info is, there is someone else out there giving away better for free.</p>
<p>By you holding back and not sharing your knowledge, you are literally making yourself look like a <strong>Dum Ass,</strong> even though your are not.</p>
<p>Between Google, You Tube, Facebook etc etc, there is literally enough information out there to learn whatever you could possible want to learn, if and this is a big if&#8230;.</p>

<p>If you start creating products that save people time, then the possibilities are endless for you. Now you are selling something that is in very short supply and high demand!</p>
<p>Trade secrets and you knowledge are just tools used to educate your market as to how well what you are selling will work for them.</p>
<p>How many times have you heard this&#8230;. It is a classic in the Social Marketing Industry.</p>
<p>Business owners (replace with customers) just don&#8217;t understand how powerful Social Media Marketing (Replace with your product) is. They just don&#8217;t get it.</p>
<p>There is a reason people that are struggling to make sales say this type of thing. It&#8217;s because it is always easier to blame someone else for their lack of success, than it is to face up to the cold hard facts that they need to do something differently.</p>
<p>I am not just talking to you either BTW, I am talking to myself as well! Give yourself an upper cut Beanie!</p>
<p>Social Media is still relatively new, and there are a lot of so called experts out there pushing all sorts of Crap (that will never work) as to how to market your business online.</p>
<p>No wonder the poor old local business owner doesn&#8217;t understand how she is going to benefit, because no one is educating her as to just how powerful this stuff really is because&#8230;</p>
<h1 style="text-align: center;"><strong>It&#8217;s a big SECRET</strong></h1>

<p>You market is no different. You need to educate your customer&#8217;s as to why your products will save them time and money in the long run, and if you have to let all of your trade secrets out of the bag for that to happen. Then so be it.</p>

<p><em><em>Have you actually ever tried to read your website on your own phone yourself?</em> Do you really think I am going to take the time to read sentences that I have to scroll across and back on every few words?</em></p>
<p><em>Obviously the answer is no, because you would have fixed it by now if you had!</em> <em><strong>Do you <em><strong>really have</strong></em> no idea of  just how busy I  am</strong>? Look at the time, the football is on, click see you I have to go.</em></p>
<p><em>I was hoping you site would be different to all the other sites, I was hoping that you had actually take the time to tell me how you could fix<strong> my problem today</strong>. The money was right there in my wallet ready to go, but you just didn&#8217;t take the time to speak to<strong> me</strong>.</em></p>
<p>Laugh if you want but that is reality, if your website doesn&#8217;t speak to someone specific, then it won&#8217;t speak to anyone at all.</p>
<p>So how do you find out if this is happening on your website everyday?</p>
<p>Go to you website and answer these question honestly. You are only cheating yourself if you don&#8217;t.</p>
<ul>
<li>Is the text, video and audio on your website about you and your business, or is it about you customers problems?</li>
<li>Does the headline grab people&#8217;s attention immediately? For the website above it should read something like this&#8230; Do you need help selecting the perfect present for your wife?</li>
<li>Does your website then go on to explain how you can fix a very specific problem?</li>
<li>Is there a call to action at the bottom of the page?</li>
</ul>
<p>Think of it this way&#8230;.</p>
<p>You go to a bbq  on the weekend. There are numerous groups of people standing around, some are talking about the cricket, some the wedding they just went to etc, etc.</p>
<p>Would you stand in the middle of this group start talking about a random topic and expect everyone to stop what they are doing and pay attention?</p>
<p>Of course you wouldn&#8217;t, because not everyone is going to be interested in what you have to say.</p>
<p>You can&#8217;t come up with one message that is going  to speak directly to the whole group . Right?</p>
<p>What do you do is find the group of people that have a similar interest, take the time to introduce yourself, then when you have their attention, tell them what you have to say.</p>
<p>So why do you think you can just do the opposite on your website?  You have to remember you are dealing with real individual people that want you to speak directly to them!</p>

<div>You see there are an awful lot of marketing companies out there that are just looking to take your advertising dollars so that they can keep doing what they love doing.</div>

<p>Now there is nothing wrong with them wanting to do what they love. But you shouldn&#8217;t end up being the poor schmuck that finances them if they can&#8217;t produce results for you?</p>

<p>This whole just get your name out there is complete bullshit when it comes to Small Business Marketing. What you want is to generate leads and sales.</p>

<p>Because today I&#8217;m letting Beanie the Construction Superintendent post.</p>

<p>Listen up real good because this is how it is&#8230;</p>
<p>I am sick and tired of hearing whinging business owners say something pathetic like this&#8230;</p>
<p>I tried Facebook but it didn’t work! Let me tell you a little secret about why it didn&#8217;t work for you&#8230;</p>
<p>If you used the same tired worn out, Crap marketing that hasn’t provided you with any results for the last 5, 10, 15 years and posted it on Facebook.</p>
<p>Guess what?</p>
<p>It’s just going to be the exact same pile of CRAP on Facebook.</p>
<p>We have a saying in the construction industry that goes just like this&#8230;</p>
<h2 style="text-align: center;"><strong>YOU CAN&#8217;T POLISH A TURD!</strong></h2>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>If your marketing is a pile of crap offline, then it’s just going to be a pile of crap on Facebook. Facebook isn&#8217;t a magic wand that is going to transform your <em><a class="ld_link" href="http://smallbusinessmarketingideas.tv/small-biz-blog/" target="_self" title="small business marketing ideas">small business marketing ideas</a></em> overnight.</p>
<p>Another reason Business Owners never ever get anything like a reasonable result from being on Facebook is&#8230;</p>
<p>They treat it as a joke. The platform may be free, but the way you use it isn’t!</p>
<p>Think about it this way&#8230;</p>
<p>Say you go to a car yard and for some unknown reason the dealer decides to give you a brand new car for free. Do you expect to just jump in it drive it forever and never have to spend a cent on it just because you got it for free?</p>
<p>Won’t you need to put petrol in it, maintain it and pay the registration for it? Well Facebook is no different. You want to start generating some leads and sales from Facebook, then start spending some money on using it effectively.</p>
<p>To prove my point, the case I am going to use is the Super Butcher. <p>People say to me &#8220;oh he is so lucky to have a huge audience like that&#8221;. Now that stupid statement really pisses me off! Luck would have had F@#% all {those characters is me holding back what I would really like to say!} to do with him having a page with nearly 17000 people on it. He would have spent a considerable amount of both money and time to achieve that incredible result.</p>
<p>So why would he have done it? Think about it&#8230;</p>
<p>He is no longer tied to TV, Radio or any other form of advertising, and the premium they decide to impose on him in busy times like Easter, Christmas, etc, etc.</p>
<p>He has his own audience that he can reach far more effectively with a Facebook status update or by sending an email. No longer is he tied to the whims of someone else’s marketing platform.</p>
<p>Because he has his own {targeted} audience on tap!</p>
<p>So if I have offended you in any way today GOOD. You can thank me in the comments section below. But just remember, it may have been the kick in the arse that you needed to wake up and realize why you are not getting anywhere.</p>
